NYC Republican Club Hosts Violent White Nationalist and Hate Group Founder

On October 12, 20178, the Metropolitan Republican Club (MRC) hosted Gavin McInnes, founder of the violent hate group the Proud Boys, as a keynote speaker. As part of his speech, McInnes reenacted the assassination of Japanese socialist leader, Inejiro Asanuma. After the event, dozens of Proud Boys violently attacked several protestors. Among the people arrested were Ian Reilly, a member of the Proud Boys. Reilly, a staffer for then-State Senator Marty Golden, was the person responsible for McInnes’s invitation to speak at MRC. Gavin Wax, who would later be appointed to a leadership position with the Young Republicans, assisted Reilly in setting up the event.
