Pennsylvania County Republicans Call PA Governor a Nazi for Enforcing Stay-at-Home Order
On their official Facebook account, the Berk County Republicans called Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf a Nazi for enforcing stay-at-home orders in counties that ignored state stay-at-home rules. Criticized by local Jewish groups, as well as county and state politicians, they later changed the word “Nazi” to “Marxist Left” but refused to apologize.
This came just ten days after Pennsylvania State Rep. Cris Dush (R) compared the Governor’s administration to the Nazi Party, and claimed the Governor was following the “socialist playbook.”
Marxist ideology and Nazi ideology have little-to-no resemblance to each other. but the word-swap is yet another example of the Republican Party’s efforts to ahistorically frame the Holocaust as a crime perpetrated by socialists, not right-wing and white supremacist fascists. A number of Republican politicians made similar comparisons over the prior two months, as did right-wing protestors at neo-Nazi-attended anti-lockdown protests. Baldly revising the history of the Holocaust and its perpetrators is the stuff of Holocaust denial.
