Lara Trump Campaigns with Far-Right Extremist Laura Loomer in Florida
On September 1, 2020, Lara Trump campaigned in Florida alongside Laura Loomer, a self-described “proud Islamophobe” who traffics in white supremacist and antisemitic conspiracies. Two weeks prior, Loomer won the Republican primary for U.S. Congress representing FL-21, and was congratulated on Twitter by Donald Trump, as well as the Florida Republican Party.
Lara Trump is a Trump 2020 campaign advisor, and is also Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law. She ran Trump’s North Carolina operation in the 2016 presidential election, and is the face of the 2020 campaign’s “Women for Trump” effort.
Loomer’s campaign manager is Karen Giorno, who ran the Trump campaign’s Florida operation in 2016, as well as serving as a senior advisor to the national campaign. Giorno has said that she has been involved in nearly every Republican presidential campaign over the past 25 years. She formerly worked for then-Gov. now-Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) — who, notably, attempted to distance himself from Loomer in 2019 after the two were photographed together at an event.
This was not Lara Trump’s first encounter with far-right extremists; in July of 2020, she headlined a virtual event with Gavin Wax — the Chair of the Association of Young Republican Clubs and an associate of the hate group the Proud Boys — the same day that Wax granted an interview to the white supremacist site, VDARE.
