DHS Puts Out Press Release Evocatove of the 14 Words — a White Supremacist Slogan

On February 15, 2018, the Department of Homeland Security put out a press release titled “We Must Secure The Border And Build The Wall To Make America Safe Again.”

A 14-word heading, this title began with the same four words that start the infamous white supremacist slogan “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White children."

The content of the press release fearmongered and scapegoated. It cast doubt on the legitimacy of asylum seekers, employed dehumanizing language, and smeared undocumented immigrants as responsible for a large percentage of crime in the United States (they aren’t).

While there is no way to be certain, it strains credulity that both the number of words (14) and the identical phrasing of “we must secure” was coincidental, especially in light of numerous similar instances in which the Trump campaign and administration have been caught using white supremacist language and symbolism.
